* Riyadh area

A sample of 1 016 children with primary dentition only were examined for nursing caries in the Riyadh area. The criterion for nursing caries was the presence of caries on the labial or lingual surfaces of at least 2 maxillary incisors with absence of caries in mandibular incisors.

* A random sample of 602 elementary schoolchildren from urban and rural areas of Riyadh region was examined in 2002.
** Randomly selected 300 children attending military primary schools in Jeddah were studied.
*** Randomly selected 789 preschool children from Riyadh were studied in 2006.
